About Dr. Krishna Prasad Kudlu
Nadoja Dr. Krishna Prasad Kudlu was born on 23rd August 1973 to Shri K Raghuram Rao and Smt. Veena Rao. He attended the St. Mary’s Kannada Medium School and then did his Pre-university education in science at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi. As a young lad, when he saw students of the Kasturba Medical College (KMC) wearing doctors’ white coats in the neighbouring town of Manipal, he aspired to be like them — and decided to be a doctor. That led him to foray into the medical field and then into ophthalmology. Dr. Kudlu married Mrs. Rashmi Krishna Prasad in December 2000. The couple has two children, Akash Prasad Kudlu and Arjun Prasad Kudlu.
He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1996 and then went on to complete his Master of Science (MS) in Ophthalmology. In 2000, he joined Hitech Hospital in Udupi as an Ophthalmic Consultant. In 2001, he started serving as an Ophthalmic Consultant at the Udupi District Government Hospital and established its first Ophthalmic Unit. In 2002, he founded Prasad Netralaya, a super specialty eye hospital with a mission to provide ‘Vision for All’. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Prasad Netralaya group of hospitals in Udupi, Mangalore, Sullia and Thirthahalli. A visionary, philanthropist & well-regarded Senior Ophthalmologist, Dr. Kudlu also extended his service at a government hospital for a decade.
His immense capabilities led the State Government to appoint him as the Chairman of the Vision Committee of Karnataka, during the term of which he prepared the Vision Health Policy of Karnataka. He is also the Honorary Secretary of the Karnataka Ophthalmic Society and a Scientific Committee Member of the All India Ophthalmic All India Ophthalmic Society.
Dr. Krishna Prasad Kudlu initiated the Netra Jyothi Charitable Trust (NJCT), a non-profit, non-commercial, ophthalmic service organization in Udupi and a sister concern of Prasad Netralaya. He is a Trustee in the same. He also founded the Netra Jyothi Indian Red Cross Society Eye Bank, where over 1 Lakh People have pledged to donate their eyes and 350+ corneal surgeries have been conducted. He also conducts Fellowship Training Programs for Ophthalmologists, where they are trained in Phaco Refractive Surgery, Corneal & Refractive Surgery, Vitreo-Retinal Surgery, Glaucoma treatment, and more.
He passionately regards social service in health-related issues as one of his hobbies. He has conducted several free eye check-up camps in and around Udupi, as well as other parts of Karnataka, Goa and Kerala. As a socially responsible ophthalmologist, Dr. Krishna Prasad Kudlu enabled 24×7 services across all his network centres at a time when most eye care centres were shut across the districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and borders of Kerata — during the COVID-19 pandemic’s lockdown.
In 2019, the Government of Karnataka awarded him the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award — the highest civilian award in the state for his service in the field of medicine. In 2021, he was awarded the esteemed ‘Nadoja Title’ 2021 by the Kannada University, Hampi — equivalent to the honorary Doctor of Literature (D. Litt) degree.
